Meringue Boola or something similar?

Monday 19th December 2016 - to Merimbula.

The traffic in Canberra perked up on a Monday morning but not to capital city standards.  It just meant that I had to look before I crossed the road on my way to the shop in the morning.

We set our course south eastwards back to the coast.

It wasn't all straight roads, in fact it was fairly winding.  We went over the Snowy Mountains, which are (according to Janice's geography teacher) part of the Great Dividing Range.  There were only two towns of substance, Cooma, which was a 'ski resort' with no snow currently and Bega that seems to be famous for its cheese factory.

We got the chance to sample the range of about six cheeses.  They were all variations on a cheddar cheese.  We weren't too impressed.

On the way down the Snowy Mountain road we stopped for lunch at Fred Pipers Lookout.  It was so called because Fred was a bus driver for 28 years on this route and he died here in 1949 shovelling snow to get his bus up the hill.  He was aged 55 - note to self, no excessive snow shovelling!  The view was pleasant enough...

We arrived early afternoon into Merimbula.  We have been working hard to get the pronunciation right. It doesn't seem a difficult word but I keep putting a 'boola' into the third syllable when it should be 'bulla'.  The locals seem to think my version is strange.

Merimbula is a nice sized seaside town with an oyster farming industry in the sea water lagoon and it has a couple of nice beaches.  Ships go out of the harbour for whale watching in the season (between Sept and Nov).

We had an evening walk and enjoyed the sunset.
