Slow morning and then a session at the gym.
After lunch we set off again toward Darling Harbour where there was a free event scheduled. To our horror, whilst travelling on a full bus into the city, young men offered us their seats.....not once but twice!!! We need to get some of that anti-grey hair colouring! Oh dear, are we showing signs of fragility? I told one of the young men that we were insulted but the second time we accepted as we were feeling doddery!
Enroute to the Harbour we saw this building, it is the Queen Victoria Building which is a high class shopping centre. The statue is one of the Queen and in front of it was a young man playing his bagpipes so fast it seemed as if his life depended on it. Not what you would expect to hear in Australia! We walked across the road to the Town Hall and next to that was St Matthew's Church.
We walked onto Darling Harbour and saw there was some street entertainment taking place and went to watch. It was a group of street dancers who did gymnastic and tumbling acrobatics. I was minding my own business when I was pulled to the centre of the ring. Of course I was just a stooge that was used to be part of the final tumbling jump when one of the group somersaulted over us four volunteers who were kneeling on the floor.
We walked around the area and visited a Chinese Garden that was lovely.
We continued our little walk around and then set off back to the apartment.
Whilst we have been here I have read two books, one I have mentioned was The Rosie Project. Aparently it is in negotiations to be made into a film. I thoroughly recommend the book, it is really funny. The other book was called Blue Dog by Louis de Bernieres. It is a story about a young boy whose Dad had died and he went to live with his Grandad in the Outback. He found a Red Dog that he called 'Blue' (that's what Australians do, they call things the opposite of what they are!). Anyway, it was a lovely story of the boy and dog growing up. It has been made into a film and is being released this Boxing Day in Australia. I'm not so sure that it will get much attention in Britain but if you get a chance to see it I'm sure it will be a nice story and probably have some glorious scenery.
We have been working on our future travel. We will be hiring a car and then visiting the Blue Mountains before working our way down the coast towards Melbourne for Christmas. The accommodation has now been booked. We are thoroughly looking forward to this part of our holiday as we hope to be able to do our own travel guides and we will see more of the country. I'm not convinced, however, that the Blue Mountains are actually blue? Janice read somewhere that there is sometimes a blue haze that comes from the sap of the euchalyptus trees! Well I've heard some BS in my time but I'm not falling for that!!
You can tell that we have had a quieter day today because I am waffling about other stuff.....you would be right. But it's been a great day all the same.
