Today's drive hugged the coast for the early part, took a detour inland and then ended up on the coast again. The GOR matched its name. It was dramatic and beautiful. Most of our photos are of beaches along the way. The weather started cool and cloudy and ended up pleasantly hot.
A couple of coastline photos follow -
Our first stop was at Apollo Bay. Guess what, the beach was lovely. It is a bigger resort along the route with a fairground and a large surf club.
We also stopped at the tourist attraction that is called the Twelve Apostles. They are rock stacks, but there are only 8???? I will be contacting the Australian Tourism Board to question the marketing accuracy of this location. It used to be called the Sow and Piglets (the Sow is the largest and the piglets are the smaller ones) maybe the marketing person got very religious but couldn't count!
The views were stunning though....
Whilst our pictures made it look quiet it was actually really busy. Certainly it is a major attraction despite the inaccuracy of the numbers.
We arrived at Port Campbell and guess what we found......a beach.
We are staying at Port Campbell Youth Hostel. As the name suggests we appear to be the oldest residents. The room is a clean and functional double room but the toilets, showers etc are in the corridor. Janice has noticed a particular advantage....there are scantily clad, tanned and buff young men running around the corridor to the showers. No female sightings as yet but I may be camping outside the bedroom this evening on the off chance! The hostel is bright and pleasant. All good so far.
